Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, little town that is a bit sleepy. People unfamiliar with the term frequently think that it's a separate island somewhere to the west of Montreal however, the West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. However, it's not the case. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. Her early ambition was to dance however a rapid growth rate meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." As I grew older than my male partners I stopped. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance of her drama teacher at high school that led her to the path she needed. She was recommended by a teacher to find a role in school's annual production. She auditioned and eventually got the leading role for the role in Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with the Bachelors in Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the past 20 years, her work has been seen on both the small and big screen. Her work gained most fame when she was offered the character of Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian member.
